Lanarkshire’s largest climbing facility opens in Hamilton

A brand new indoor climbing center will open in Hamilton today (Tuesday).

Hold on tight: the climbing center – the first of its kind in the city – officially opens at 2:00 p.m. in the Newcross Shopping Centre.

Work on Lanarkshire’s largest bouldering center began last year, after South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) approved plans to change the former Argos retail unit to the shopping centre.

The center now offers around 650 square meters of climbing walls and obstacles, a dedicated children’s climbing wall, a reception hall, associated changing rooms, rest areas and a café.

Three members of staff will operate the premises and the maximum capacity will be 170 people once all restrictions are lifted.

The store will be open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Center director Matthew Meyerhoff said Lanarkshire Live“Part of me still can’t believe it’s really here.

“With all the complications that COVID has caused, it has been difficult to prepare the center.

“I’m ridiculously excited to open the doors today and finally share our center with everyone in Lanarkshire.”
