New Rockslide on Hope Mountain Being Assessed by District and Province – Mission City Record
A new rockslide has appeared on a prominent mountain that overlooks Hope, but it doesn’t appear to be a threat to the town.
Residents heard the sounds of crashing rocks high up at Hope Mountain on Friday just before 7:30 a.m., and many can see the new scar from their homes. It is visible from most neighborhoods in the community.
Hope Mountain is a large mountain on the south side of town, rising steeply from Highways 1 and 3, and home to popular hiking trails. It is known for its rock falls, and this one is quite high above the city.
Still, the District of Hope confirmed it was already in contact with the province about the rockslide.
“This is a known rock slide area of the mountain and there is an already constructed diversion and intake channel in place below for these events,” said Hope District General Manager John Fortoloczky. . “These due slides happen occasionally. Nonetheless, we are working with the province to confirm the extent of the slide and assess the risks posed to the district.
