According to KUTV and KTVK, Thatcher’s Mila Carter said she and her husband, a photographer, were on a ski boat bound for Antelope Point Marina on Monday when they spotted sand and rocks falling from a cliff.

“It lasted long enough for my husband… to stop and pull out his camera, and I pulled out my cell phone just in time to catch this massive breakaway from a massive chunk of cliff,” he said. she told KUTV.

She continued to film as the landslide caused a large wave, media reported. The video shows the couple’s boat fleeing to safety as rising waters rapidly approach.

“After we walked away, we just stopped and looked and made sure we didn’t see anything tragic,” Carter told KUTV. “Fortunately, everyone was in the right place at the right time, and it didn’t go the other way.”

Carter shared the video on Facebook, where it quickly went viral. As of Wednesday morning, it had been viewed more than 473,000 times.

The Arizona Geological Survey’s Joe Cook told KTVK that the incident, a “rock rollover,” likely happened because lake levels are extremely low.
