The owners of this 1953 home in Old Lake Highlands did a renovation in 2018 that blended old and new in its design. Perhaps the most unique feature of the redesign is that the house has two rock climbing walls, one in the stairwell and another in the home gym.
Co-listing agent Barbara Arredondo of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty said the owners are avid climbers who have worked to marry old and new in the renovation process. The mid-century home now has a contemporary farmhouse feel, she said.
One of the owners is an architect, Arredondo said, and that expertise helped make the addition seamless.
“When you do it this way, you’ll get a home that looks cohesive,” Arredondo said, adding that it’s hard to tell where the old structure meets the new in this home.
The home at 502 Bondstone Drive features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two half bathrooms in 3,150 square feet of space. If you look at the house from the front sidewalk, the right side of the structure is the original 1950s house, which Arredondo says was about 1,200 square feet before the addition.
A living room sits just inside the entrance to the house and is open to the adjoining kitchen. The kitchen has cabinets, a fridge and sink along two walls and a large island in the center which contains the stove and oven and a wine fridge. Another counter section in the space includes a second sink, storage and additional seating. A door in the kitchen gives access to the backyard.

The house has a storm shelter hidden behind a bookcase next to the stairs. The main floor also includes a dining room, family room, hallway with a built-in office, and the home gym.
Arredondo said the house has two master suites, one on each level. The main floor master suite has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a separate bath and shower. There is another bedroom on the first level and an additional full bathroom.
The master suite on the second level has a private bathroom and a dressing room with an office space. This walk-in closet could be considered a bonus room, and it connects the master suite to the upstairs office. The office has a mezzanine space accessible by a ladder and a balcony.
Outside, the house has a saltwater swimming pool which Arredondo says was added in 2020. The house sits on a 0.27 acre corner lot.
“It has such a presence,” Arredondo said of the way the house is placed on the lot, leaning towards the corner with a “panoramic” look.
The Dallas home is listed at $1,125,000 by Barbara Arredondo and Sandra Najera of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty.
